Find Your Groove this Fall

Sometimes it’s difficult to find your groove after the sultry summer months. Long days gradually shorten and you feel that cool crispness back in the air. While it can be a bit of a bummer to bid adieu to summer, the Fall is a great time to re-establish grounding habits and routines which set you up for some super productive and spiritually aligned days. If you’re lacking inspiration to get back at it, here are a few tips I find to help me ground my Fall rhythm.
As I like to say to folks, use what resonates here and leave the rest. I realize the tips below may not be for everyone. It’s what works for me.
Sleep Schedule
Sleep is such a big thing in my world. If I don’t get proper rest, it throws a total wrench in my day. While there are certainly ups and downs with sleep, by building some consistency into my sleep schedule, my body is better able to establish its rhythm which makes for greater ease and flow upon waking. To add to this, I suggest turning off any/all screens at least an hour before bed. If you have an alarm clock that isn’t connected to your phone, use that instead of your phone. Leave your phone in another room if possible.
Daily Sadhana
A ‘Sadhana’ is a spiritual practice that you commit to for a certain length of time. It could be a daily meditation practice, exercise, journaling, yoga, or perhaps it’s not looking at your phone for the first hour you are awake. Whatever it is, the key is to choose something that doesn’t necessarily come easy for you but rather, something that is challenging. The reason for this is to help shift your mindset and create new neurological pathways in the brain. When we do this, we move beyond the usual habits and well-worn pathways to experience something different thereby opening us up to new possibilities for growth, healing and expansion of consciousness.
One personal practice I committed to a couple years ago was a Kundalini yoga set called Nabhi Kriya, a powerful and fiery practice designed to help you connect to your power centre and mission in this lifetime. The intention with this practice was to commit to doing the set every day for 40 days. It wasn’t easy but it was the perfect reset I needed to help me get my ducks in a row and cultivate my inner fire. If this is something you’d like to try out, I have created a 40-Day Nabhi Kriya Journey which is available on my website.
Ground Yourself with Food
One of my dear friends swears by nutrition as medicine. I’m talking about real food here. Not store bought, packaged stuff. While every body is different and no one set diet is going to work for everyone, getting the proper nutrition into your body is going to help nourish you on so many levels. And hey, if you can heal yourself with food, it sure beats resorting to medications. Lets make getting off medications the new normal in our society. Some food suggestions for this Fall could include root vegetables such as beets, potato, parsnip and squash. Not sure what to do with them, roast them and/or toss them in a soup for a nutrient rich meal to warm you up from the inside. One of my absolute favourite soups is Curried Apple Butternut Squash. Here’s a recipe to try!
I hope these little tidbits help! Wishing you all a rich and abundant fall season. Talk soon!
Warmly,
Tim
